On a new bathroom or remodel - the hole you need to cut in your ceiling becomes a heck of a lot smaller than with a standard fan. It just looks a lot nicer. I also wouldn't hesitate to simply run this fan on the duct work above any older fan that died. It is almost impossible to get a real good fit over them with the ductwork. The sound in my setting mostly comes from the outbound air hiting a sharp corner of the duct immediate after the air output hole (this isn't a suggested installation, but not the product's fault), giving out about 53 dB measuring outside the duct corner at a few centimeters, while outside the fan itself the sound is below 50. Note that the measurements were made almost touching the device. So if you are not putting your ears at such a position you will hardly notice it running with normal background noice from home.
