What may is the platform's reliability, flexibility, and power. Creating basic containers and populating them with user applications and resources is simple. As a member of the Common Open Software Environment (COSE) initiative, Sun helped co-develop the Common Desktop Environment (CDE). This was an initiative to create a standard Unix desktop environment. Each vendor contributed different components: Hewlett-Packard contributed the window manager, IBM provided the file manager, and Sun provided the e-mail and calendar facilities as well as drag-and-drop support ( ToolTalk ). Indeed, if a company’s success depends on the serendipitous acceptance of a service offered to millions of Internet users, the ability to capitalize on that success depends on the application’s scalability. A popular application whose performance lags generates only bad press, not increased revenues. Accelerated Application Lifecycle Rolling out new applications is more important than ever, and building applications using a flexible, re-usable set of hardware and software components is the only way that they can be successful. Chapter 1 Introduction Virtually every business in operation today understands that its survival depends on the quality and capability of its IT organization. This understanding spans the spectrum from start-up companies whose whole business is conducted on the Internet, to established companies that use their datacenters to run their internal operations. Today’s competitive marketplace demands more and more of their IT organizations. IT organizations must be able to implement and roll out new applications — internal and external — at an unprecedented rate. The very business model of delivering applications is also changing. Rather than building monolithic applications that are deployed with much fanfare, many organizations are adopting a model that uses what is essentially natural selection. They roll out a larger number of smaller applications, let the marketplace decide which of them are used by customers, and then polish, enhance, scale, and support the ones that prove themselves. A Formidable Set of Challenges The dynamic nature of the marketplace and the demand for IT organizations to be flexible, agile, and more productive than ever, poses a difficult set of challenges to IT organizations. The Space, Power, and Cooling Crunch IT organizations large and small are up against hard constraints in their datacenters. They are running out of space and are up against their power and cooling limits. Most existing IT organizations are saddled with legacy applications built with silo architectures.
Storage — An Organization’s Most Valuable Asset IT organizations realize that their most precious asset is their data, and consolidating storage into a single, central pool allows them to manage each logical volume to best meet application and organizational requirements. Storage can be configured onto systems having the right capacity and performance characteristics for the job, replicated in remote locations for disaster recovery purposes, and snapshot and archived according to record-retention requirements. StorageTek tape devices and libraries allow valuable data to be stored at rest, and moved offsite for the utmost in data security. Compared to disk storage, tape is inexpensive and requires no power when it is not being used. A range of Sun software products give IT organizations the tools they need in order to fully manage their data, the systems that store it, and plan for future storage requirements. Sun’s systemic security approach uses architectural building blocks and patterns to build security into each step of the process of designing a datacenter or application. Sun’s security practices uses a best-of-breed approach that combines technologies from Sun and its affiliates. Sun chooses its security software affiliates carefully, and depends on them for firewall, antivirus, and anti-spam technology. Chapter 2 Datacenter Design Principles Good architectures are critical to designing complex, network-oriented systems, including datacenters.
Historically, architectures have provided the solid frameworks onto which applications can be deployed. Sun can provide a range of managed services, from the complete outsourcing of datacenter functions to working side-by-side with customers, educating them and helping to instill Sun’s best practices in your organization. The Challenge of Constant Change There is probably no more constant in IT organizations today than constant change. YouTube, for example, grew from a startup to a billion-dollar enterprise in a mere 18 months. The several months it would take to determine exacting requirements and design specifications may be necessary for some parts of an IT organization, such as storing critical data, but other aspects of information technology must move at a lightning pace in order for a company to be successful. YouTube would not have been able to rise to the level that it has if it had spent 18 months developing design specifications. Although this is an extreme example, it does illustrate how architecture helps to strike the balance between requirements, implementation constraints, and time to market. 8 Datacenter Design Principles Sun Microsystems, Inc. Companies still must spend time on critical infrastructure areas, including messagingoriented middleware, database services, and other areas that need secure, scalable infrastructure, and which protect the data critical to a business. But a major shift in application development is affecting how rapidly an IT organization must change, incorporate, and support new services on an ever-expanding set of devices ranging from desktops to mobile devices. Companies are adding value by interfacing with customers, partners, suppliers, and even competitors, as they develop new applications and services based on general sets of requirements. Development cycles have thus become shorter, more iterative, and more interactive with both business stakeholders and customers.
Pressure to Cut Costs Cost pressures are forcing IT organizations to find ways to increase administrator productivity in terms of servers managed per administrator, reduce the cost of rolling out new applications, and to squeeze more servers and storage into datacenters without undertaking expensive remodeling efforts. Complying With Government Regulations A new generation of government regulations dictate how customer and employee personal information is handled and retained. In some industries, including the financial industry, even application availability is regulated and disaster-recovery capabilities are no longer optional. Sun Technology to Meet the Challenges Information technology is no longer just a component of a business, in many cases it is the business — leading today’s IT organizations to realize that their datacenters are critical to their strategy. Over time, this belief has proven itself over and over, and nowhere is it more valid than in helping today’s IT organizations architect, deploy, and manage their datacenters. Sun has maintained a systems-level view of information technology, providing solutions that encompass the complex interactions between a datacenter’s key components, whether they are the servers, storage, and networks that provide the underlying power that drives the datacenter, or the network services, software, virtualization, management, and provisioning capabilities that can help turn a datacenter into a global pool of resources that can support new capabilities at a moment’s notice. Sun understands the growing need for eco-responsibility, and it offers highly efficient server technologies that, when combined with Sun’s approach to architecture, consolidation, and virtualization, can help IT organizations do more with less power.
Sun has a range of architectures, products, and services that can help IT organizations establish and maintain the flexibility and agility they need to adapt and excel in a world where business begins and ends in the datacenter, and some of the technologies available to Sun’s datacenter customers include the following: Dynamic Infrastructure and Service-Delivery Networks Dynamic infrastructures and service-delivery networks allow IT organizations to redefine their datacenters as a flexible, scalable, adaptable pool of resources that can be leveraged to meet a rapidly-changing set of application and workload demands. Dynamic infrastructures allow, for example, new applications to be deployed using 4 Introduction Sun Microsystems, Inc.Virtualization enables organizations to consolidate multiple workloads from existing systems onto a smaller number of more powerful servers, allowing workloads to be created and re-allocated across them in real time. Some virtualization techniques even allow legacy applications to be transitioned into a virtualized environment without re-installing operating system or application software, providing a pathway to retire obsolete, energy inefficient servers while still supporting the mission-critical software that runs on them. Virtualization presents new challenges, specifically managing servers, middleware, networks, and storage as a system. Sun’s management technologies can help IT organizations get the most flexibility out of their virtualized environments. Sun offers a highly differentiated server product line with products that are designed to meet the requirements of different workloads and contribute to power efficiency in the datacenter. Sun offers high-density blade servers and systems designed for streaming video; it offers servers whose characteristics — 24 TB of storage in only four rack units — blur the distinction between server and storage.
All of these factors point to the need for datacenter design principles that can help organizations better adapt to a world that is characterized by constant change. Architecting Dynamic Data Centers In a world where applications must be developed practically overnight, with few formal requirements, and then scaled as customers demand the service, patterns can help provide guidance. Patterns encapsulate core problems and solutions that can be used as elements of specific business solutions. Architectural patterns may encapsulate part of a solution, for example a firewall sandwich configuration, or they may represent an entire solution, such as an enterprise mail subsystem. Patterns can also help demonstrate the forces or systemic qualities of a solution. Patterns are useful tools for architects to use when exploring how various solution components can be combined and interconnected to create successful architectures. They raise the level of abstraction, allowing architects to focus on solving a specific business problem rather than becoming mired in an undifferentiated sea of details. Patterns also can be used to develop standards, since they often highlight how a problem is being solved and the techniques and products used. Patterns may be arbitrarily complex, but they are ultimately based on a set of building blocks — individual elements with no interdependencies (Figure 1) 9 Datacenter Design Principles Sun Microsystems, Inc.Building Blocks Building blocks represent the smallest, irreducible component or object within the context of a pattern or architecture. As a general rule, building blocks provide clear features, clean interfaces, and have limited interdependencies with other building blocks. An example building block may be compute nodes or servers that process specific types of workloads, or a content load balancing switch.
Patterns The concept of patterns in IT system design has evolved over the years, originating from Christopher Alexander's seminal book in the architecture field, The Timeless Way of Building (Oxford University Press, 1979). From Sun’s perspective, a pattern is defined as a generalized, reusable design solution to a recurring network architecture design problem. Patterns derive from the experience of solving the same or similar design problem over and over. Once defined, the generalized design solution can be used heuristically, applied to problems with similar design challenges, and used to establish standards. Patterns can be used for the purpose of specifying a “best fit” solution that is shaped by the prevailing and relevant forces that are present in each implementation project. Patterns are observed, not invented, so they are descriptive, not prescriptive. They are defined at a sufficiently high level that allows architects to avoid working through and getting bogged down with specific details. While patterns are adequate for high-level discussions and direction, the devil is always in the details, and patterns help to standardize solutions that have the details already ironed out. The concept of patterns provides an excellent basis for documenting and describing the various attributes that make up a solution to a problem. In practice, there are patterns and there are also “bad,” or anti-patterns that specify solutions to be avoided. 10 Datacenter Design Principles Sun Microsystems, Inc. Similar, but inappropriate pattern matches include: clustering, which provides horizontal redundancy and traffic redirection but not traffic distribution; and load balancing, which implements horizontal redundancy and traffic distribution but not redirection (failover). Standardization Many large organizations rely on standards to help manage the challenge of creating and deploying good datacenter and application architectures.
Good standards dictate both the products, configurations and reference architectures that should be used to solve a recurring problem. In addition, standards often do not keep up with rapid change in technology or with business requirements. Organizations that depend on standards alone may find that they cannot keep them up to date fast enough. In contrast, Sun's approach is to use patterns to highlight common architecturalbuilding blocks, and then use those patterns to derive standards. This approach leads to better standards that are based on real-world observations, not optimistic scenarios that are invented by committee and not always tried in the field. Standards are everywhere in the mature data center. Whether formal or informal, they include architectures, product selections, configurations, and processes for managing the components. Making changes in datacenter environments requires considering many complex dependencies. Standards are the basis for moving up the operational maturity scale, and introducing automation and other means of increasing efficiencies. Some important standards used by Sun include Points of Delivery (PODs), Standardized Operating Environments (SOEs), and use cases. 11 Datacenter Design Principles Sun Microsystems, Inc. PODs and Workloads Points of delivery provide environments that are optimized for specific workloads. They encapsulate storage, networking, management, and servers. One example of a POD is the Sun Customer Ready HPC Cluster, a platform that allows IT organizations to deploy a standard set of preintegrated servers, switches, and storage devices with rack-at-atime granularity (see “Sun Customer Ready HPC Cluster and Scalable Storage Cluster” on page 46.) Workloads help describe the resources an application needs to run. In order to meet target quality-of-service levels, they must run on an underlying architecture that optimizes their service levels.
For example, front-end Web server workloads have significantly different characteristics than database workloads. Database workloads themselves differ based on the types of transactions they process. Systemic qualities such as scalability, availability, and security also affect how workloads are deployed. If a workload requires high availability, then the application architecture and deployment architecture supporting it should meet the required service levels. Similarly, multiple applications with the same workload footprints may have different security requirements, and they may not be able to run on the same infrastructure. The POD hardware platform layer consists of compute hardware, network, and storage. The availability and scalability requirements and the service tier that the hardware is intended to support often drive the specifications of the servers. Applications can scale independently. As applications need more resources than are available in a POD, additional PODs can be added, providing more capacity. Both horizontal and vertical scaling can be used as appropriate for each application. Horizontal Scaling for Web-Centric and Compute-Centric Workloads Applications that perform lightweight processing and are stateless can easily be scaled through a horizontal scaling model. This model uses multiple identical servers combined with load balancing and network traffic redirection mechanisms to create an infrastructure with horizontal redundancy and high availability. These applications often process network-centric workloads and reside at network edges. Some compute-intensive workloads are also candidates for the horizontal-scaling model. High-Performance Computing (HPC) applications including climate modeling, automobile crash simulation, and seismic analysis are often built to run on compute clusters: large numbers of small servers each of which work in parallel on some small portion of a larger problem.
This unique processor technology supports the processing of up to 32 parallel threads per processor with minimal power consumption, ideal for applications such as front-end Web servers. For horizontally-scaled applications that are compute-intensive, performance per thread is most important, and Sun’s AMD Opteron processor-powered servers including the 1U Sun Fire X2100, X2200, and X4100 severs, and the 2U Sun Fire X4200 serves are frequently-specified systems. Servers used for a horizontally scaled service or application typically have 1-4 CPUs per server. Differences around standards for this class of server are usually related to the amount of compute capacity needed and reliability requirements. For example, a set of horizontally-scaled Web servers can use servers with a single power supply because any single server can fail without affecting the overall service. Long-running HPC applications, where the failure of a single server may require re-calculating a result that takes a week to calculate, often require redundant components (including power supplies) to minimize the impact of a server failure. Sun has made deploying large numbers of horizontally-scaled servers even easier with the Sun Customer Ready HPC Cluster. Rather than purchasing, receiving, installing peripherals, racking, and cabling on a server-by-server basis, customers can now order servers a rack at a time, with options preintegrated by Sun Customer Ready Services. This helps IT organizations to rapidly scale their infrastructure and minimize the time from receiving a rack of systems to putting them to use. Vertical Scaling for Data Centric Workloads Sun offers high degrees of scalability in both its UltraSPARC and AMD Opteron processorpowered server product lines. Sun’s UltraSPARC processor-powered servers scale up to 64 dual-core UltraSPARC IV processors. Sun’s x64 server product line scales up to eight processor sockets populated with dualcore AMD Opteron processors.

You’ll have time before your assessment to prepare yourself. Every soldier does Basic Training, whichever job they’re going into.
The achievements require you to simply win 3 matches on each new map, and do a squad match on a Takeover mode map where your team wins by more than 100 points. This will come over time while you play Guerrilla mode. There are 50 waves for each level. So depending on how many waves you complete. Playing with a full 4 player lobby might limit the amount of kills you would get, so doing this with 2 players would have a better out come. That way there is an even amount of kills shared. Try getting a party of 4 to make things go by faster and having a bit more fire power. You will HAVE to be in the game from beginning to end. You can not join on wave 50 or in the middle of a wave, the achievement will not unlock. Also you do not have to do all 50 waves in one sitting, but you will have to always play with who ever is hosting. You can easily hold down the HQ without much trouble. Once you successfully complete each wave you will be awarded with a Wave Streak. Keep fighting until you are awarded the Air Strike reward. Once you have the Air Strike reward (around wave 8), be sure you have enough enemies in your area before activating it. You don't need to aim or direct the Air Strike, once used, it will just fire and destroy just about every target on the map. Stay crouched the entire wave. Just move through the map and eliminate all 5 enemies without setting off any detections. Follow the video for any additional level details. Remember, if you fail don't worry because chances are you will get it in a different mission. Try to limit them as much as possible. It has also come to my attention that difficulty, deaths, restarts and the challenges do not affect the Ghost Skill score (%) at the end of the level. Each one has 3 tactical challenges. If you die after completing a challenge you do not have to do it again, it will stay saved after the first completion. You can do the tactical challenges over multiple playthroughs or in Mission Selection.
Try do the challenges for each mission, and also getting 80% Ghost Skill. If you fail a challenge or don't get 80% GS, don't worry you can replay the level later on. Look at Just Another Day at the Office for more details and tips. Pretty much you have 50 waves per level. The objective is to protect the HQ from enemies. You will have about 20 seconds to clear the HQ of any enemy that is in it. If you lose the HQ or die, you will restart that round again. You will encounter light enemies, shielded enemies, snipers, RPG enemies, humvees, etc. Its a fun and strategic game mode to play with your friends or squad members. So party up, pick your weapons and survive all 50 waves.I suggest playing Squad Matches since a good amount of the multiplayer achievements are tied in to this mode. You can also pick up the none squad related ones in this game mode also. The challenges change every 24 hours. Not much to these, the challenges are all straight forward. See Anything You Can Do.The achievements are pretty straightforward, with the three secret achievements being story related and unmissable, and the two non-secret achievements being the same deal as some achievements from the original campaign. Dirty Work requires a run through the 3 levels on Elite difficulty, while Maximum Effort requires you to finish all of the new tactical challenges, which - aside from being rather glitchy - aren't all too terrible either. Only Secure Dawn has an Elite difficulty challenge, so if you wish to play through the game on a lower difficulty and knock off most of the challenges, while returning later for the Elite achievement, and the last challenge, that would work fine. It would also allow you to get a second chance on any challenges that glitch out the first time around. The achievements require you to simply win 3 matches on each new map, and do a squad match on Stockades where your team wins in under 2 minutes.
To invite friends into your squad, press the and click on your friend's name it will let you invite them. There is a sure way that you can get a key objective first every time. The only tricky part is making sure that you get joined together. If one team searches and is in an empty lobby, then the other team searches - it improves your chances of getting joined together.Shouldn't take too long to unlock depending on how much xp you get per game or if you win or lose. You will have to kill the enemy before they take out your teammate. Doing this will grant you an extra 300xp. If you hold you will be able to follow one of your teammates around. Just cover them while they are getting shot at and you should get credit towards one savior kill. Do this 4 more times before the match is over and the achievement will be yours First down an enemy and data hack their body. After a successful data hack enemies will be highlighted in red. Use the Coordination System to create a path to the nearest enemy. This is done by holding, hold UP on the, you will see a small section on the top of the action wheel with a grid and crosshairs, release the. This will create a path to the nearest enemy. Kill that enemy to achieve a Coordinated Kill. Do this 9 more times to grab the achievement. Send a bullet to their head, execution style to get an easy Coordinated kill. You will know when you get a coordinated kill because it will pop up under your kill score at the top of your screen. If any new attachment effects the guns stats take it off after the achievement unlocks. If you want this really quick, buy a Trigger for your Pistol and it will unlock. Make sure you play a full match of each, 5 times. Joining in the middle of a match will not count. You will have to kill an enemy who downed one of your teammates. The enemy will be standing over your teammate. At this time, either shoot them or stun them to get credit for denying the enemies data hack.
The chosen difficulty does not matter (only for the challenges that are tied to a difficulty - Mission 4, 6, 9, 10). You do not have to reach the end of the mission to make the tactical challenge count. You can drop out after reaching the next checkpoint. The enemies have the same motion pattern on every difficulty. Starting it on Elite and in Co-op will limit the amount of playthroughs you will have to do. The difficulty achievements are stackable. Elite is not hard at all. If you do manage to die or fail, this game has frequent checkpoints which is helpful. Some missions can be long. A message will appear on your screen when an enemy is data hacking one of your team mates. At least for me took me forever. I personally did this using the Scout class on the Pipeline level during a Conflict match. I just took cover behind a wall on the second floor, wait to become invisible and press to aim behind cover and to bring up your scope and snipe the enemies as they try to capture the objective. Or if your lucky enough to find a match with some people that aren't very good at this game, focus on killing them, then capturing objectives. Good luck with this one! Keep in mind healing a downed teammate gives you 500xp-750xp for every pick up. Spawning off teammates give you 35xp-75xp.
You will have to win 3 MP game modes: I suggest making a checklist of the maps name and what game modes you have won on them. This will allow you to play on those maps specifically. Once you've done that, just win at least 3 games on each of the three new maps. This can be boosted by breaking into an 8 person group of 2 4 man teams looking for squad matches at the same time until the two groups meet in a match. Either way, you will need to have your teammates do their best to stay alive while you quickly eliminate the enemies. For every teammate your enemy kills, one of their own teammates will be revived, thus increasing the time it takes to finish the game (like dodgeball). It's the same deal for this DLC, with most of the challenges involving the pistol and stealth kills, adding an extra bit of difficulty to the missions, especially on Expert. But, that's nothing a true Ghost should have a problem with. If you do have any problems, look HERE for my 100% tactical challenges guide. One thing to note is keep an eye on your back as enemies spawn all over the area, and not just in front of you. From there, just win 3 games of any type of each of the maps. His humoristic aproach makes reading very pleasant and the goals and checklist at the end of each chapter pushes you into the pursuit of financial stability. I definitely recommend it.Stop counting pennies.It was super packed with information. However I will just start with what I didn't like. The first half of the book was the same topic. A very needed topic but being a rookie I already knew that credit was a big deal. Now for someone who is fresh out of high school who has no idea what credit is and is looking to get started. It would be perfect for them. It was like it was designed for them which is great!!! Those who are not considered rookies or maybe people who already know the ins and outs of credit I would still say to read it. Might be a little boring but in the end I did learn a thing or two. I learned more from the 2nd half of the book. Rookie or not I would recommend this book to anyone who is looking to get into Financial freedom. Lets be completely honest. Kids in high school will need to read this. Its a must. They need to know at least the credit part. Jeff Rose provides such a different way of looking at it that is easy to understand. For all my Vets out there who are reading this. Thank you for your service and by all means. This is pretty much a T.O. to money. Very easy to read and I personally was a big fan of the military terms, though I have never been in the military I was able to follow with his examples very easily. I was hoping the book would have more on how to make the money grow and investment vehicles for my money.The book is 100% for someone who realizes they have a debt issue and need a place to start. The book does well at motivating and explaining simple debt issues and solutions. I liked hearing Jeff explain his own issues with debt growing up and was relateable. Good stuff.I wish I could return it.I can start this was out starting point in saving and planning that triggered us to clear our credit card debts and plan better for life. For someone who is starting a married life or are getting serious to plan ahead in life in terms of money, this is a great startedI found several interesting chapters that were very well written. I enjoyed many of the military terms as he applied them to personal finance. But that approach and comparison, at times, was a bit of a stretch. I would, however, recommend the book for anyone beginning their journey of getting a handle on their finances.Highly recommended for someone who is working towards their financial goals, for those more experienced it’s a great reminder to keep you on track.If you need a step-by-step program to get out of the hole you've gotten yourself in to, this is it. Notice that the transpose takes effect as soon as a new pitch is played on the MIDI keyboard. As an alternative, if you have another analog sequencer or analog keyboard with a CV output, you could substitute either of them in place of the MIDI keyboard to transpose oscillators in the XS. Then set the CV Track control of the XS to the ABX setting. By synchronizing the playback of multiple Orb units, they can all be played back simultaneously in perfect time with one another. Each Orb could be used to control a different section of the XS. But the advantage is that each Orb can be doing its own thing. So let’s say that you have one Orb assigned to control the pitch of the oscillators in the XS. The second Orb controls the filter cutoff, or velocity of notes in the XS. The third Orb controls the triggering of the envelopes in the XS. Change the filter cutoff frequency or note velocity without the pitch or rhythm changing. The result is pure polyrhythm heaven. ATTACHING THE ORB TO THE XS AND RACK MOUNTING MULTIPLE ORB UNITS The Orb is the same size as our XS unit and has been designed so it is possible to attach the Orb to either or both ends of the XS. Enclosed in your Orb rackmount kit you should find 2 rack ears, 2 unit rails, and 12 Phillips screws. Simply remove the 2 black Phillips screws holding each side panel on the unit. Keep these screws, as we will use them later on. Set the 3 Orb units on their back surface (each unit side by side) so you have easy access to these screw locations. Take one of the unit rails and align the holes in the rail to the screw hole locations on the Orb. Notice the unit rail is “L”-shaped, and you want the flat portion of the rail without holes pointing away from the bottom of the unit and closest to the back edge of the unit. Now you can install 6 of the 12 Phillips screws securing the rail to the unit. It’s best if you start with mounting the middle unit first, then mounting the 2 outer units. Make sure the units are mounted evenly. Take the remaining unit rail and align it with these screw hole locations on the Orb. Again the flat portion of the rail without holes should point away from the bottom of the unit and be closest to the front edge of the unit. Now install the remaining 6 Phillips screws securing the rail to the unit. Once the units are evenly aligned, be sure to tighten all 12 screws securing the rails to the unit. Align the rack ears so the small portion with holes faces towards the front of the unit. Use 2 of the Phillips screws you removed earlier from the desktop pieces, and install them so the rack ears are fastened to the sides of the two outermost Orb units. Be sure to keep all remaining screws and end pieces in case you wish to convert the Orb units back to desktop versions in the future. Connect the MIDI Out of any MIDI controller or keyboard to the MIDI In of the XS. You should hear the XS playing notes just as they are programmed into the Orb. While the sequence plays you can play notes on your MIDI keyboard in the range of C2 to C7 to transpose the pitch the XS oscillators play.

It's fun to use, but has several shortcomings: no MIDI IN so you cannot sync it to anything else than a computer, no visual feedback on the knob values, no transposing (AFAIK). I haven't used the Dark Time but I think it's too expensive. I find it much easier to enter sequences on the BeatStep than on the other units mentioned, and its featureset far outstrips something like the DarkTime. Lately I've been just making basic patterns, and the messing with the random, to record out the most amazing variations. Lay one or two or five of these patterns together and they rule the day.I hesitate to get the beatstep with the bad reviews. I hadn't considered the korg, but the price is right and looks like it will do what I am looking for. This may be a good one to start with. The Orb and Dark Time look really cool, not sure if they justify the cost though. I don't follow instructions wellKorg EA-1: This is my favorite for MIDI sequencing. Patterns can be up to 64 steps long. And it can sequence two parts on different (consecutive) MIDI channels. Even if you never use the internal sound engine, it's a great sequencer for the price. The only downside is that it's MIDI only (no CV outputs) so you need a MIDI to CV interface to use it with some analog gear. The Mobius is another sequencer I really like. But it is a fun sequencer to tweak live and it works well as a sync hub between MIDI and CV gear. These days I use it mainly with my FR XS, but years ago it was my only sequencer and it did a great job. The slide function works great for acid sequences, which is reason enough to keep it. Dass der Orb allerdings nur eine Spur zur Verfugung stellt, finde ich wie gesagt fur den Preis von 550 Euro dann doch ein bisschen happig. Zudem ist die Gate-Polaritat fix eingestellt und vermindert das Einsatzgebiet. Hier muss es insgesamt Abzuge im Preis-Leistungs-Verhaltnis geben.

Der Orb kann zu externen MIDI-Clocks synchronisiert werden. Man kann den Orb auch als MIDI-to-CV Konverter benutzen, eingehende MIDI-Noten liegen dann an den CV-Outs an. Zusatzlich kann der Orb Program-Changes senden und empfangen.Diese werden uber die kreisrunde Eingabe aufgerufen und im Pattern-Modus auch editiert. Hierbei ist die Eingabe von Sustain-Noten einfach und gut gelost. Man halt einfach erste und letzte Zahlzeit der Note gleichzeitig gedruckt. Patterns konnen kopiert und geloscht werden. Auch eine Swing-Funktion in drei Stufen kann jedem Pattern zugeordnet werden. Komplettiert wird das Maschinchen von einem Song-Arranger, der in 16 verschiedenen Song-Speicherplatzen bis zu 3580 Takte unterbringen kann. Auch notenweise Verschiebung der Steps eines Pattern oder gar Ruckwartslaufen bewerkstelligt der Orb on-the-fly. Alle Einstellungen des Orb konnen in verschieden Paketen (1 Bank, alle Banks, 1 Song, alle Songs) per Sysex gespeichert und geladen werden. Fur jede Kombination, die sich aus den beiden Reglern ergibt (16 mal 16.Befindet sich der Orb im Pattern-Edit Modus, kann man dann schon beobachten, wie das Lauflicht nicht mehr brav im Uhrzeigersinn seine Steps abknabbert. Vielmehr kann sieht man, wie verschiedene nicht aufeinanderfolgende Steps ausgewahlt werden. Diese Funktion kann auch auf vorprogrammierte Songs angewendet werden. Accents werden dabei mit einer Velocity von 127 ausgegeben, nicht akzentuierte Noten mit einer Velocity von 64. Dass der Orb auch als reines MIDI-to-CV arbeitet, ist allerdings sehr erfreulich. Dabei gibt es aber weder Moglichkeit, die Patterns durch externes MIDI zu transponieren, noch die Gate-Polaritat zu wechseln, was die Kompatibilitat mit anderen Synths unnotig verringert.

Euro has an amazing array of sequencer modules available and not having the ability to sync to CV clock is essential - that's not available on the Orb. After trying to make the Orb work for me and then playing with a sequencing system based around a SEQ-01 and Z8000 I found the modules were far more fun and useful. A gliding note can be created by having the Orb receive two MIDI notes played slightly overlapped in time. In order for the Orb to generate an accented gate at the Accent output, the MIDI note received must have a Velocity value greater than 63. Any notes received with a Velocity value equal to or less than 63 will not generate an accented gate signal. For best results, always filter out or avoid sending MIDI information to the Orb that it does not respond to, such as MIDI CC, Aftertouch, Pitch Bend, Mod Wheel, and so forth. You can use the on board sequencer which has the amazing remix function, or, if you don't make it play, and set it to ext. Je jugerai cet article a son prix actuel et non a celui auquel je l'ai obtenu pour donner un avis le plus juste aux personnes qui en feront l'acquisition. J'ai voulu retrouver la ''nostalgie '' de mon ''enfance'' lorsque j'ai achete cette mini console et au premier abord, j'ai ete vraiment decu par les premiers jeux testes. J'avais en objectif de faire decouvrir a mon fils de 7 ans les premiers jeux d'arcade de l'epoque afin de lui prouver qu'on peut tres bien se distraire avec des jeux simple et drole. La jouabilite de certains jeux est impossible malgre que pour certains jeux on a plus de facilite, la manette a tendance a se bloquer et a nous ramener a l'interface de depart. Je confirme egalement les commentaires deja presents sur le fait que le cable a relier a la tele est beaucoup trop court ce qui nous restreint a jouer beaucoup trop pres de la tele et c'est bien dommage.Pour ma part, aucun des jeux proposes de m'a reellement conquis, il est clair que je ne suis pas un passionne de jeux video, du moins, cette console n'a pas su animer l'envie de trop s'eterniser dessus. Elle pourra peut etre convenir a un collectionneur d'anciennes consoles car au niveau du design elle reste appreciable, c'est un joli travail en finition.Les sauvegardes de progression sont egalement pas proposees ce qui vous fera tester le jeu qui est deja difficilement jouable mais il vous faudra tout recommencer si vous perdez comme par exemple si la console bloque. Conclusions: Belle petite console mais qui aurait merite un travail plus approfondit avec un cablage plus long et du materiel interne de meilleure qualite. Une diversite de jeux plus recherche. I sincerely wish there was a way to save patches, and I do realize that thats the way Jerod inteneded it to be. The 777 is set up so that users can dial in the sound they want very quickly, elliminating the need for patches. In a way we hope this forces users to become creative, with patches in a synth who spends time getting into the machine. Not many, but most will turn on a synth and if they like the presets they will use the synth or might make slight adjustments to a sound to get it right. The other thing is make your music evolve, it is more interesting to hear how a sound changed from one to another smoothly than to hear an abrupt change. Those who wish to work with preset sounds have many synth options to consider. For those who like to be a bit more creative the 777 is a great tool. Now, if you want to save a patch, you can do it 'Manually' - which is a little janky. Developed by another 777 user, you use a sytem of know setting with a range from 0-12. TO sum it up, you write down your know positions. And when you want a sound you found a week earlier, you set the knobs back to the positions your wrote down.
